Paranoid Humanoid

This also made me look fat. Looks like I'll remain homeless for the foreseeable future.

- back for more fish -

I'm back (for now) because the new blog wasn't as customizable as Pitas, and I finally gave up trying to make it unfugly.

I suppose this is good news for my "listeners" (all 4 of them) -- apparently, I have grossly overestimated their cyber-stalking skillz™. Folks: I suggest you practice your google-fu 'cause you're gonna need it. Also, if there are any other lurkers out there, please speak up: paranoid dot humanoid at yahoo dot com.

Since I been gone:

  • Dine Out Vancouver: Lumière was sold out, so Grace and I settled for Chambar. Excellent food/beer, but it was the funky atmosphere that really made it shine.
  • VFS Open House: I saw more bad student films than I ever care to. The only one I liked was called "Born Cold," a CGI short in which a snowman devours its creator despite the boy's desperate plea ("I made you with snow and looooove!").
  • Run Lola Run Soundtrack: Ironically enough, not a very good CD for running. Perfect for power-walking, however.
  • Super Bowl XL: I'll be rooting for Pittsburgh, simply because Ben Roethlisberger (the mountainman beard notwithstanding) is way cuter than Matt Hasselbeck.
  • Sympathy for Lady Vengeance: The high-anticipated final installment of Chan-wook Park's revenge trilogy was a bit of a letdown, but it's worth checking out for Yeong-ae Lee's surprisingly good performance (yes, the same Yeong-ae Lee who almost single-handedly ruined JSA). My favorite thing about the movie were the clever dialogues and deadpan deliveries, but I doubt that y'all non-Korean speakers would be able to appreciate that fully.
Current music: Pixies - Doolittle

New life; new blog. See you on the flipside, yo.

Do you think it's possible to go through one whole day without hearing a Kelly Clarkson song?

Current music: Garden State - OST

- still homeless -

You know when you find a shirt that you *think* you really like, but you're not sure if it's worth the money? You obsess over it for days, and when you finally try it on, you realize it makes you look fat? Sure, you're a bit disappointed, but ultimately you are left with this strange sense of relief because you can now move on without regret.

It was kinda like that today. I totally got this out of my system.

- straight eye for the queer guy -

Girl: Let's go watch HGTV.
Queer: Ugh, I don't like HGTV.
Girl: What kind of a gay are you? You're a useless gay. I need a new gay.

Current music: Willie Nelson - He Was a Friend of Mine

When you go see Brokeback Mountain, be sure to sit through the credits. If the movie doesn't break your heart, that Rufus Wainwright song at the end will.

Not that you'd need it, but here is even further evidence that Roger Ebert has gone senile. He goes as far as calling my favorite blogger glib, smug and insular. I'm so jealous.

Current music: Morcheeba - The Great London Traffic Warden Massacre

- america's next versatile model -

H: (Pointing at J. Alexander) Who, or what, is *that*?
J: I'm not sure. It's either a very ugly man or a very ugly woman.

If I was a rich girl boy (na na na na na na na na na na na), I'd buy:

  • John Varvatos limited edition Chuck Taylors
  • Trunk David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust t-shirt
  • Wings & Horns zip-up hoodie
  • And another pair of G-Star jeans

My best girlfriend Jenny just got engaged! This is one wedding I will not skip out on. Congrats, Jenny and Francis.

- the silver highlights look really good on you -

I don't mind getting ID'ed when buying booze or going to bars. In fact, I actually get a little offended when I am not carded in those situations. Getting ID'ed when buying lottery tickets? Er, not so much. Is there an epidemic of teenage-lotto-playing that I'm not aware of?

Current music: Sufjan Stevens - Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois

- racism pushes sandra bullock down a flight of stairs -

Further evidence that Roger Ebert has gone senile: he picked Crash as the best movie of 2005. (It was #3 on Roeper's list.)

Fortunately, the only critic whose opinion matters agrees with me. (See my entry from Sept 12, 2005 for my rant on this annoyingly self-important and pretentious excuse for a movie.)
