Paranoid Humanoid

- and tim hardaway hates him only 75% of the time -

Overheard on the company cruise:

Drunk co-worker #1: I'd say my husband is about 25% straight.
Drunk co-worker #2: Your husband is 25% straight?
Drunk co-worker #1: He buys his own shoes!
She better help him overcome before the rest of him succumbs to homosinuality.

- youth in asia -

(For those of you not in the know, Baxter was Jason's scary 150-lbs Rottweiler.)

My favorite memory involving Baxter: Once, Baxter lunged at me as I was walking through Jason's door. Jason caught him in mid-air, slammed him into a wall, and yelled at him for being rude to a guest. Baxter was always nice to me after that.

I just found out that Baxter had to be put down because he had cancer. He was almost 13 years old.

- me talk pretty one day -

Started taking a French class at work today. After all, I work for a French company and we routinely use words like "transversal chantier" (which basically means a feature branch in Perforce, but it sounds much more sophisticated, n'est-ce pas?).

I guess it's time to reacquaint myself with Dr. & Mrs. Vandertrampp. Tabarnac!

- fade to white -

Just another dead fag to you, that's all
Just another light missing
On a long taxi ride
Taxi ride
After watching the final season of Six Feet Under (almost a year late, I know -- life without Netflix ain't easy), I decided to be totally fucking morbid and put together a playlist for my funeral. "Funeral" is an anagram for "real fun," don't cha know.
  1. Radiohead - Exit Music (For a Film)
  2. Tori Amos - Gold Dust
  3. Rufus Wainwright - Poses
  4. Antony & the Johnsons - Bird Gerhl
  5. David Holmes - Gone
  6. Blur - The Universal
  7. Lou Reed - Perfect Day
  8. Halou - Honeythief
  9. Smashing Pumpkins - Soma
  10. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
  11. Bright Eyes - First Day of My Life
  12. Elton John - Rocket Man
  13. Sonic Youth - Superstar
  14. George Winston - Thanksgiving
  15. Nirvana - Lithium
  16. Interpol - Next Exit
  17. Jem - 24
  18. Beck - Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometimes
  19. George Michael - Kissing a Fool
  20. U.N.K.L.E. - Rabbit in Your Headlights
Current music: Nine Inch Nails - My Violent Heart

- everything in its right place -

I finally committed enough brain cells to memorizing the names of these 3 places:

  1. Zakkushi (a.k.a. "the skewer place"): It seems like there's a new Japanese tapas restaurant popping up every week here in Vancouver, but this one's here to stay. Note to self: always go with salt, not sauce.

  2. The Cross (a.k.a. "the pretty thing place"): I'd never buy their over-priced trinkets, but it's a perfect meeting place for Hannah and me because it's located exactly at the half-way point between our respective homes.

  3. Chicco (a.k.a. "the Japanese dessert place"): The best fucking green tea latté in the world. But at 5 bucks a pop, I guess it'd better be.

- top of the k-pops -

Kevin gave me a CD of top 100 K-pop songs of 2006. A great WTF moment: Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is #55 on the list.

Also on the list are a couple of tracks by TVXQ. Now, for those of you not in the know, TVXQ is the latest Korean boyband to conquer Asia, continuing the tradition of great SM Entertainment boybands of the past like H.O.T. and Shinhwa. Matt says he wants this to be the theme of his wedding, which will presumably take place in the bride's hometown of Championapolis.

Oh, when you watch the video, make sure you read the full description.

And then there is Super Junior, a Korean boyband with whopping thirteen members -- K-pop's all-male answer to Morning Musume, I suppose. This seizure-inducing video is a rice queen pedophile's wet dream if there ever was one. I'm still a little troubled by the fact that every single member is prettier than the lone girl in the video (the one they supposedly "can't stop thinking about").

- breaking news -

Hannah and Gemma are in the business section of the Vancouver Sun! All thanks to the kick-ass press release I wrote for them, of course. Ok, not really, but whatev.

Go read the article and congratulate them by buying something.

And speaking of teenypigs, this girl is fucking amazing. Maybe I should look into competitive eating as an income source now that my Google contract is over.

- a series of unfortunate events -

A new girl started at work this week and her name is Nati Ho. Yes, really. It's all very unfortunate, but I suppose it could've been worse.

- let's hug it out, bitch -

Producer #1: The thirteen of us began with a singular vision -- "Titanic" meets "Frasier."
Producer #2: But then we found out that ABC had a similar project in development with Annie Potts and Jeremy Piven.
Homer: Who's Jeremy Piven?
Producer #3: We don't know.
Producer #4: But it scared the hell out of us, so we slapped together a cop show instead.

Jeremy Piven sure has come a long way. It wasn't too long ago that he was merely a punchline in a Simpsons episode, and now he's what makes Entourage the most watchable show on HBO (yes, even more so than The Sopranos).

Little known fact: Jeremy Piven was my second ever "what's that guy's name?" search on IMDb (after watching Gross Pointe Blank). The first ever? James Gandolfini (after watching Crimson Tide).

- hansol and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat -

I splurged on a dreamy Nice Collective jacket little over a week ago, and I still can't figure out what color it's supposed to be.

I swear it was chocolate brown when I tried it on at the store (and David can vouch for me there) but when I wore it to dinner that night, everyone thought it was jet-black (prompting Hannah to call me color blind). I felt vindicated when it appeared to be brown again in the elevator ("who's color blind now?!") but the next morning in the sunlight, it looked positively graphite. And now Matt thinks it's dark blue.

Oh well, I love it just the same.
