- overheard in vancouver -

Queer #1: (Pointing at a kid) Did you look like that when you were little?
Queer #2: Oh, I was much prettier. I lived in a constant fear of getting kidnapped because I was so fucking cute.

- hit it, herb! -

Richard Dorfmeister was spinning 2 blocks from my apartment last night. Literally. And I didn't go. I suck.

Also, just found out that Goldfrapp is coming to the ShowBox on May 11th. No Canadian dates as of yet, however.

- what a girl wants -

Hannah asked me to pick out the songs for her 10-minute mini fashion show. Her requirements: funky, upbeat, happy and not-too-edgy. Translation: "not the weird stuff you normally listen to."

These made the short-list:

  • Bomb the Bass - Bug Powder Dust (K&D Remix)
  • Roller Coaster - Cheer Up, Mr. Kim
  • Annie - Chewing Gum
  • Underworld - Two Months Off
  • Ben Lee - Catch My Disease
  • Pulp - Disco 2000
  • m-flo loves Bennie K - Taste Your Stuff
  • Pizzicato Five - Baby Love Child
...and these were the final 3 songs chosen:
  • Stars - Ageless Beauty
  • The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
  • Roller Coaster - Last Scene
On a somewhat related note: buy me this and I'll be your best friend forever.

Current music: The Beatles - Abbey Road

- the b-list celebs are out there -

Today's sighting: Nicholas Lea at Mondo Gelato. His kid and I were both pouting because they were out of mango.

Current music: David Gray - A New Day at Midnight

- 6 degrees of dave white -

I just saw Sung Kang walking down Davie St. in a hideous sweater. In Canada, even celeb sightings are 2nd-rate.

I also met a guy from LA (more accurately, David met this guy -- I just happened to be there too) who claimed to be a good friend of Dave White's. My very first real-life encounter with a WeHo Queen -- do I get a badge or something?

Current music: Antony and the Johnsons - I am a Bird Now

- i'm a consumer whore (and how!) -

This side gig thingy has been working out rather nicely. It's mind-numbingly easy and I get to do it sitting on my bed as The Go! Team blasts from my stereo. I make my own hours, and also get to decide how much or how little work I do. And while it doesn't even start to offset the recent paycut, the extra cash is always nice -- I now think "I'll just google for a few more hours" whenever I need to buy something. It's kinda like my technowhore days when I used to think of everything in terms of overtime hours.

Some of the highlights from recent shopping sprees:

  • Aforementioned Adidas Stan Smith Safeties. Still hurting my feet. Still loving them.
  • Light brown suede Birkenstock Arizonas. 49 bucks! Nordstrom Rack rocks. Only 4 more empty slots to fill.
  • White t-shirt with a silhouette of Bad-era Michael Jackson above the word "Adolescent." I don't do consignment stores, but this I had to have.
  • Dark brown G-Star cords. When I find a pair of G-Stars that fit, it's a great day. When I find a pair of G-Stars that fit at half price, it's a truly special day. It has happened only twice in recorded history.
  • Graphite Diesel motorcycle jacket, 50% off at a sample sale. For those of you not fluent in Fag, graphite = charcoal = dark grey. It's also my new color of choice now that I don't allow myself to buy black anymore. (Seriously. It's my only new year's resolution for 2006.)
  • Graphite Obey polo shirt with a massive (but subtle) skull print. I paid full retail for this (something I rarely do), but this did prompt Hannah to say "you bought *that*?" in disbelief, so I know it was money well spent.

- grammar nazis unite -

Correct me if I'm wrong, but "each other" is for 2 people/things, and "one another" is for 3 or more, no? It's one of my biggest pet-peeves of all time.

- canadian psycho -

Len: Can you kill someone with cyanide?
Me: Yep. Alan Turing killed himself by eating an apple laced with cyanide.
L: How much cyanide does it take to kill a person?
H: What the fuck? Do I look like some kind of a poison expert to you?
L: You are always reading about psycho killers and shit.
H: Good point. None of them used poison though.

I am so tempted to send this to Boing Boing.

Happy birthdays to Jenny, Jason and Corey. Yes, being 30 is every bit as awful as they say. Enjoy.

- the patented front-butt technology -

What men are saying with their choice of "premium" jeans:

  • 7 (straight): My girlfriend/wife bought me these. I don't know the difference between these and Gap jeans.
  • 7 (gay): I'm not shelling out 200 bucks for another pair of jeans until these fall apart.
  • Citizen: I'd rather die than be seen wearing 7s.
  • G-Star: I'm a type 3 gay.
  • Diesel: I so desperately want to be hip, but just don't know how.
  • Evisu: I'm stupid, but at least my parents are loaded.
  • True Religion: I'll do anything that In Style magazine tells me to do.
  • Rock & Republic: Ditto.
  • Energie: I'm a type 4 gay.
On a related note, I am so getting these.

- conspiracy theory -

Amazon got a fair bit of (bad) press a few days ago when it jumped the gun on the NCAA hoops result. Having talked to a couple of ex-coworkers, I'm beginning to wonder if it was a calculated publicity stunt. The site traffic (and possibly sales) probably experienced a healthy spike after the media hits, and that totally makes up for people thinking that you have made an embarrassing mistake, right?

These are the people who somehow managed to figure out that Gold Box would bring in extra $50,000 a day, so anything is possible.

- a man's right to shoes -

Christine: I mean, they kind of rub my ankles, but all shoes do that. I have low ankles.
Richard: You think you deserve that pain, but you don't.

- from Me and You and Everyone We Know
My new pair of kicks (dark brown Adidas Stan Smith Safety -- at 60% off!) have been scarring the hell out of my left ankle for the last couple of days, but they make me happy. I only have 5 more empty slots to fill in my shoe rack now.
