- there is nothing good on the internet tonight -

The highlight of my Memorial Day long weekend: watching 3 hours of YouTube while eating 6 ice cream sandwiches and deciding that Tressant Suprême is the funniest video of all time.

Current music: Beck - Guero

- wholeness and separation -

Despite this cruel world and all my best efforts
You surprise me with just how perfect you are
We once again interrupt the alphabetical iPod playlist to bring you my favorite song of the year thus far. This song is like little pieces of Portishead, Flunk, Orbiter and Hungry Lucy all rolled into one neat package. Thank you, KEXP.

Current music: Halou - Honeythief

- violently happy -

Three things that made my day yesterday.

  • I got an email from Dave White. I thought I was getting punk'd at first, but it really was him. Whoa. He said he was ready for his first stalker, so I immediately signed myself up.
  • Jay gave me the 2nd season of Lost (minus the final episode) on DivX. (It doesn't come out on DVD 'till October.) Another sleepless week awaits.
  • I may have landed my first writing gig. I'll fill you in on the details when it actually happens.
Also, a shameless plug for Hannah: go sign up here, y'all.

- i dream of james gandolfini -

In my latest Gandofini dream, he was murdered and this somehow caused American Idol to be cancelled. I'm so not making this up.

I think I need to seek professional help.

- happy end of the world -

I'm going to Vegas to see Elton John! Details TBA.

3 more reasons for celebration:

  • I'm not 30 anymore. Yay.
  • I finally hired an underling. Yay again.
  • I asked for, and got, a hefty raise. Double yay.
Current music: Kruder & Dorfmeister - Conversions

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming (and alphabetized iPod action).

- taxi ride -

And I'm down to your last cigarette and
This "we are one" crap as you're invading
This thing you call love
She smiles way too much but
I'm glad you're on my side, sure
I'm glad you're on my side
Still
Taking a short break from my alphabetized listening of the iPod because I had a sudden urge to listen to this song. On repeat. Don't ask me why.

Current music: Tori Amos - Taxi Ride

- what would the pointy-haired boss do? -

I had one manager at Amazon who was an ex-Softie and he just *loved* talking about how things were done back at the Evil Empire -- so much so that I made up a game where I'd count the number of times he said "at Microsoft, we..." during meetings. It totally caught on and my teammates and I would compare the counts after each meeting. ("He broke the record! 12 times!") I even put "I wish he didn't start every sentence with 'at Microsoft, we...'" in his manager evaluation one year. Ah, good times.

Yesterday, I found myself saying "you see, at Amazon, we, er, I mean, they..." repeatedly as I had a heated argument with a clueless PM. Oh, the horror.

- leaving on a jet plane -

Bought tix to Indy, so I guess it's official now. 0+ to fly to a place that has *no* beaches. Why am I doing this again? I think I got tricked.

And speaking of flying (and beaches): I started watching the 1st season of Lost this weekend. Yeah, I'm like a year behind, but you try keeping up with all the new DVDs with 2 jobs, no Netflix and a lousy public library. It's hard out here for a Canuck.

The show reminds me a lot of Carnivàle with its endless flashbacks and cryptic clues that never get answered. It kept me interested for a while, but now I'm beginning to get annoyed/tired with the way it toys with the audience. And I still have 16 episodes to go.

Other notes:

  • I like Matthew Fox, but I just don't see him as the heroic doctor type. I'm half expecting him to cry out "I have cancer!" at some point.
  • On the other hand, I totally dig Dominic Monaghan and his character. Rumor has/had it that he and Elijah Wood are/were a couple. Ew.
  • Harold Perrineau must have a really good agent.
  • Let me get this straight: they got a Korean actor who doesn't speak a lick of Korean to play a Korean guy who *only* speaks Korean? Brilliant. Then they have an Indian guy playing an Iraqi guy. Another touch of casting brilliance. They all look/sound the same anyways, no?

- livejournal: making cyber-stalking easy since 1999 -

Finally finished Exile in Guyville. Go buy it because it'll make you laugh. (I'd lend you my copy, but ever since certain someone left my Malcolm Gladwell-autographed copy of Blink on a plane, I don't let nobody touch my shit no more.)

And now, a little backstory on how DJ Mrs. White became part of my complete breakfast:

Back in June 2002, I met this guy while volunteering. He was some sort of an alterna-punk writer/filmmaker trapped in a football player's body and was dressed in head-to-toe black. Naturally, I was immediately smitten. I somehow mustered enough courage to talk to him during the volunteer wrap-up party a few months later, but it soon became clear to me that he was only interested in the bottle of Absolut I was holding. Like, whatever. So, the end.

Fast-forward to November 2003: I'm reading a co-worker's LJ which leads me to another LJ, then to another. Lather, rinse, repeat. Eventually, I stumble upon the LJ that belongs to the aforementioned MIB who has apparently relocated to NYC (he would soon move to LA). I become a regular reader and begin to notice one guy who's always leaving witty comments. So, I start reading *that* guy's LJ which turns out to be the funniest thing on this side of David Sedaris. And that's how I "discovered" my 2nd favorite gay writer in the world. The end.

- when i dream about the moonlight on the wabash -

We have (tentatively) decided on our summer vacation destination: Indianapolis! Or, as Matt likes to call it, "Midwest Dream Vacation." I call it "White-trash Wet-dream Vacation," but tomayto, tomahto.

And in case you haven't noticed: I'm now listening to my iPod in alphabetical order by album and it's taken me 2 weeks to get to B. Only 5081 songs left to go.
