- the korean invasion -
Apparently, Cyworld is getting ready to launch its US version next month. Some eye-popping numbers from the article:
- 90% of all Koreans in their 20s are Cyworld members. There are 18 million members in total (the population of South Korea is 48 million).
- Cyworld was bought out for $8.5 million in 2003. This year, they are expecting $140 million in sales.
- 90% of all images uploaded in Korea go to Cyworld.
I don't "cy" (which is now a verb, much like "google" is) and I'm the only Korean person I know of who doesn't, but I *can* tell you that this shit is crazy addictive. As Gemma once said, "Cyworld is like Hotel California. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."

- while my ipod gently weeps -
3 things I realized while listening to The Beatles (a.k.a. "The White Album"):
- It's a brilliant piece of work. I think it's my 2nd favorite old-school album of all time. Can you guess my #1 pick?
- Yet, I will never again be able to listen to it without thinking about Jay-Z. Tragedy, or just a natural progression of human evolution?
- My iPod has more than 50 albums that start with "The" -- and they are all listed under T. Should they go by the first letter after the "The" instead? OCD much? Yes, yes I do.

- samurai are frequently, secretly (fond of each other) -
I totally forgot to mention: the opening film of this year's Vancouver Queer Film Fest is a GAY SAMURAI MUSICAL. (I think that deserved all-caps, don't you?)
Maat's response: "I am not sure if I should run to the ticket office or hide under sturdy furniture." I couldn't agree more.

- pink carpet diaries -
I volunteered for Out on Screen's silent auction event called Bulging Briefs and Busting Bras last night. Some of the highlights from the super fun evening:
- We really did have pink carpets in place of red ones. I actually thought it was a very nice touch.
- All volunteers were given t-shirts to wear. I was the smallest guy there by far, and also the only one who opted for a medium. Everyone else went for a small.
- Volunteers were encouraged to work sans pants -- and some actually did, wearing just underwear and their ill-fitting t-shirts. The executive director gave her intro speech wearing boxerbriefs with rolled-up socks stuffed in them; the MC (some famous local comedian, apparently) wore a tux, but no pants.
- There was this Asian guy who 1) had a blonde mohawk, 2) was carrying a Coach clutch purse and 3) spent the entire event talking on his Razr which was not only hot pink, but also had hundreds of tiny pink rhinestones glued on it (à la Paris Hilton's Sidekick). Ugh, fags like that give us all a bad name. Anyhoo, while lining up to pay for his item, he dropped his phone, which then shattered and sent a few of those tiny pink rhinestones flying. This almost made him cry, and I had to run to the other side of the venue so I could laugh. Oh, and the item he bid on and won was a dildo/vibrator.
- There were 5 short films screened in all. The 3 that I liked: Girl Cleans Sink, La Différence and Moustache.
- The guide book for this year's festival is out -- and my name is in it! My biggest contribution was proofreading the blurb for a collection of Canadian shorts about toilet sex. Fer reals.

I've made it to the "Q" section of my iPod. Here is the list of Q albums that are not named Quality Control:
Queer as Folk (UK)
Queer as Folk: Season 1
Queer as Folk: Season 2
Queer as Folk: Season 3
Queer as Folk: Season 4
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
Yes, I'm drowning in gay. I need Snoop D-O-Double-G to drop it like it's hot and rescue me from this sea of thumpa-thumpa.

- as if! -
Amber: Ms. Stoeger, my plastic surgeon doesn't want me doing any activity where balls fly at my nose.
Dionne: Well, there goes your social life.
- from Clueless
Contrary to popular belief, it's not a good idea to use straws after getting your wisdom teeth pulled. My doctor says the sucking motion is not conducive to healing or something.
Well, there goes my social life.

In the wise words of Black Francis: I got a broken face, uh-huh uh-huh!
(Ok, not really, but I do have 4 fewer teeth now than I did this morning.)
If you'll excuse me, it's time for my T3-induced nap.
