One more pop-parablizing (about a week or two behind, but like, whatever):

Though it breaks your heart
We had to sell the farm
Nights were just too long
With all your children gone
Would it keep you strong
If I said it with a song
Back to California where it's warm

Correctly identify these 3 people and win a prize:

Queer #1: Ask him how much his last cellphone bill was.
Queer #2: How much?
Queer #3: Four hundred and seventy five dollars.
Queer #2: Omigod, that's like 2 pairs of jeans!

The rhythm of my footsteps crossing flood lands
To your door have been silenced forever more
The distance is quite simply much too far for me to row
It seems farther than ever before
Oh no

I need you so much closer

- a series of unfortunate events -

  • It appears Ray Winstone has finally become a household name in the US -- for spilling the beans on the alleged Brad/Angelina engagement. Lovely.
  • Laptop shopping is a bitch. Remember a few years ago when it was impossible to find a normal looking pair of runners because all the shoe companies decided it would be hip to make everything look overly futuristic (read: tacky)? Looks like the notebook industry is going through a similar phase. Also, whoever decided that it would be a good idea to put the "delete" button next to the "ctrl" key should be shot. Ugh.
  • Why do the Astros refuse to score when I'm watching? Much like the game 7 of the 2003 ALCS in which I somehow managed to witness all 5 Boston runs and none of 6 Yankees runs, today I managed to witness 5 of the 7 ChiSox runs and none of the 5 'Stros runs. That frustrating 9th inning when they failed to score the game-winning (and potentially series-saving) run despite having a runner on 3rd with only one out was painfully reminiscent of one of the NLDS games from several years ago when they just could not bring the series-winning run home despite having the bases loaded with nobody out. They went on to lose to the Braves in extra-innings, of course.

- what would pat robertson do? -

This is America, and we're Christians here -- aside from a few Jewish people who were just born that way -- and I can tell you one thing: Jesus Christ and his apostles were certainly not into "man-on-man action," which is how they describe it on their porno videos, which, I am proud to say, Blockbuster does not carry. Um, I work there and it's very family.

- from The Opposite of Sex
Y'all can now safely start blaming the gays for ruining the possibility of Yanks/BoSox ALCS rematch. Jesus may hate the Yankees, but everyone knows nothing pisses him off like good ol' homosexin'.

A great analogy from a former co-worker who shall remain anonymous:

Amazon's age in people years, I think, is about around 13 years old. I started when everything was new and it was the startup. Everyone thought it was cute and it was learning so much so quickly. By the time he reached around 9 or 10, I incorrectly believed Amazon had fully matured to an adult company, but I was mistaken. It's at that stage now where its hormones are kicking in and it's really annoying and you kind of want to beat the shit out of it, but remember how cute it was when it was 5.
Amen to that.

- au revoir les enfants -

Just sent out this email. I had actually written this up almost 2 years ago, so I only had to change minor details.

Hola,

As some of you may already know, my last day at Amazon was Sept 22nd. Although it didn't happen exactly as I had planned it, I'm happy to finally be moving back to Canada -- something I've been threatening to do for the past couple of years. :)

I'll be in and out of Seattle for the next few weeks before I officially get deported. I don't have any immediate plans other than to start collecting welfare and explore the wonderful world of McJobs, though I'll probably go back to school at some point.

Thanks for making the past 5 years a memorable experience. My personal email is [yada yada] if anyone cares to keep in touch.

Cheers,
Hansol.

Leonard says this almost brought tears to his eyes. Although I've never been a big hockey fan, the Canucks' 94 playoff run remains one of the most exciting sports memories of my life. And it was the Russian Rocket who made it happen.

Just received a package from The Bookstore. It was postmarked Sept 22nd, which happens to be my last day there, so I figured it was about COBRA or some other useless crap. Instead, I found this inside:
